About Prashant Sukharamwala MD

Dr. Prashant Sukharamwala  obtained his general surgery training  at The Ohio State University Medical Center and  NorthEast Ohio Medical University ( NEOMED) and finished his subspecialty fellowship in Foregut, Bile Duct, Liver and Pancreas cancers surgical procedure in Tampa.  He then went on to do another year of   fellowship training in Robotic Gastrointestinal oncology. After finishing his fellowship, he assumed the position of Director of  Gastrointestinal Surgical Oncology, Tampa.  A major portion of his training was focused on Robotic approach to the complex abdominal cancers. This ensures  that after your surgery, recovery is speedy and less stressful due to less pain involved.

Dr. Sukharamwala has been very active in scholarly activities. He has written numerous articles on Liver, Pancreas, bile duct tumors and Gastroesophageal Reflux disease. He has written book chapters and published two books on Surgical Education.

Dr. Sukharamwala has a very strong research background with numerous publications and presentation at national meetings like American College of Surgeons, American Hepatopancreatobiliary Association, Pancreas Club, SAGES and Southeastern Surgical Congress. He is a member of numerous international and national medical organizations. Through his research activities, Dr. Sukharamwala constantly keeps himself up-to-date to the current surgical technology and medical advances.

Single Site Laparoscopy:  Traditionally all the laparoscopic surgeries are done with multiple ports sites , however Dr. Sukharamwala will perform most of  his procedures with only Single Site Laparoscopy through the umbilicus. This allows a very speedy recovery and minimal incisional pain as the entire  operation is done through a single 1 - 1.5 cm incision in the umbilicus. Single Site Laparoscopy approach is offered only at a handful  of institutes throught the United States. Through his humble personality, Dr. Sukharamwala is very well respected among other physicians, nursing staff which complements his dedication to provide excellent patient care to achieve best possible results. Dr. Sukharamwala performs many operations using advanced state of the art techniques including Robotic DaVinci   Surgery combined with his advanced expertise in the various diseases.
